Each year we dedicate a bit of our time to consulting with and contributing to Houston's creative community and creative non-profits. It's a way of giving back to those who continue to inspire us daily or fall in line with our own beliefs in creating a stronger creative community in Houston.
There are many things we hold close to our hearts and though none of us at Culture Pilot were born and raised here, we've all come to love dearly this hidden gem we call Houston. The reasons are infinite and our eyes are continually open to pushing Houston even further in the creative spectrum.
Here are a few of our contributions below. If you have an idea for a creative, community-minded project you'd like us to consider, please get in touch! And please give us a good 6-8 week lead time. Plan early. Plan often.
World's Fairs are a global showcase for culture, technology and the arts. Expo 2020 is an initiative to bring the World's Fair to Houston, TX in the year 2020. C2 Creative is a growing creative incubator in Houston. We're honored at the opportunity to help this organization who is providing mentorship and guidance to new creative startups in the form of workshops, connections, educational resources and funding. Did we mention they're a non-profit? It's nearly impossible to sum it all up in one paragraph. If you have a big idea and need help putting it in motion, drop everything and head to c2creative.cc.
Please support your local artists. In their own words: "Since its inception, Spacetaker has grown into a dynamic, multifaceted organization dedicated to equipping local artists to succeed in the business of art. The Culture 365 Program is designed to cultivate meaningful relationships between artists and arts organizations and those businesses and patrons who support their endeavors." We could not have said it better! Head to spacetaker.org for another primary example of why we love Houston's creative community.
Each year we venture to our sister ciy of Austin, TX for the opportunity to meet new collaborators and learn from our ground-breaking music, film and interactive technology leaders abroad. TED is a global platform devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. TEDx is a locally organized event that focuses on individuals and innovation in various cities. Beginning in 2010, we began a mission to help introduce Houston’s most fascinating thinkers and doers to a world stage. The individuals involved in helping with TEDxHouston (we love you!) have a passion for this city. We believe in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. We want to introduce the public to the Houstonians who are forging a path to the future. Is that too much to ask? tedxhouston.com.
Pecha Kucha is a Tokyo, Japan-founded event, whose name originated from the Japanese term for "chit chat". The event consists of several speakers presenting in a format of 20 images x 20 seconds on nearly any creative topic you can think of. It makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace. Houston organizer, Tony Medrano, has been pulling together several amazing professionals from Houston's creative community over the past few years to present inspiring ideas. We provided a bit of design collateral and our very own Javier Fadul gave a presentation on artificial intelligence and it's application within creative industries. Come out for a fun and inspiring evening at Houston's next Pecha Kucha!
Fresh Arts and Glasstire are two of the more progressive non-profit Arts organizations in Houston. Each year, they join forces with an annual fundraising event in the form of an Art Ball & Auction. In 2010, we lent a hand by creating a website to advertise the event and provide a means to preview and purchase Art pieces leading up to the auction. Now quit lollygagging and help support Houston's Art community at HoustonArtBall.org!
In 2009 we began a journey with founder J.R. Cohen to create sustainably minded business culture in the greater Houston area. #SLGT is about showing and sharing support for the outstanding local talent that’s brewing in your local city. Day in and day out we’re blessed with the opportunity to collaborate with talented designers, savvy publicists, inspiring artists, entrepreneurs and curators of culture. #SLGT encourages us all to tap into our local resources. We are not only creating sustainable solutions, we're building a sense of community. We invite you to join the movement - Support Local, Grow Together.
Twestival is an annual, single day event where cities across the world leverage the power of social media in support of a local cause. We sponsor with a bit of design collateral and twitter visualizations that showcase the support of the community through a live twitter feed, projected at the event. Get involved or learn more at Houston.Twestival.com
